Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Hi everyone! Sorry I am so bad about posting this year. But I wanted to drop a quick 'Hello!' and say Happy Holidays!

Dobby is doing well; he and Gracie watched my mom and me fill their Christmas stockings... it was pretty adorable. They were so excited! Dob just got some edible treats since he already has SO many toys. He did wear his Christmas sweater for part of the day though :)

Family Camping Trip

Boy, I told you there were lots of fun things happening! Last weekend Dobby and I went camping with my family and Gracie. My sister was even back from her summer job in Maine, so we were all together and it was wonderful. Here is our little camp site, which actually did stay pretty dry despite the rain!

But the highlight of Saturday was a canoe trip on the lake! Mom and dad took Gracie for a hike because we wouldn't all fit in our canoe, but Dobby got to ride along because he's nice and light weight :) He had a great time! We stopped at a little inlet and got out to swim for a while. I didn't get any pictures because I was busy making sure he was safe, but Dobby did swim for a while! It was so cute. His little tail spins around like a silly propeller. Here we are on the lake!

When he got tired of sitting on my lap, Dobby found the softest spot around (of course!) and curled up:

It was a fun ride!

Later, we went back to the camp site. Gracie was not a big fan of camping and was very happy when we just let her in the tent to have a nice nap (besides, it was raining then, and it kept her long hair relatively clean and dry).

Dobby napped for a while, too, but I think those pictures are on my sister's camera. The whole family was giggling and teasing him because where he was sleeping was deep in a pile of sleeping bags and you couldn't see him unless you called his name and his little head poked up, with his big ears. "Dobby!" we'd say, then his head would appear, then we'd giggle, then he'd realize we were just being silly and put his head back down. Then we'd do it again. After 5 or 6 times, he figured out the game and just went to sleep. Later, he (once again!) found the softest thing around and made a nice seat, although we teased him a little by taking pictures of it:

It was so much fun, and very beautiful :)

(We camped at Rocky Gap State Park in MD, which has several options for pet-friendly camping.)

The Big Move and Our New Neighborhood

The move was complicated. Thank goodness my parents came all the way down to NC to help me. Dobby did not like all of our things being in boxes and was really unhappy when we were loading the moving truck. Once we got things settled in WV though, he adjusted quickly. There was a lot of stuff!

It took about a week to unpack. Meanwhile, I made friends with my new neighbor and she showed me a good place to walk Dobby. Here is our new walk route!

It is a kind of run-down neighborhood but everyone seems friendly. Living in the mountains is really beautiful, but it makes going for long walks difficult because there are always a lot of very steep hills. Luckily, this walk is about a mile long and only has small hills. One of the most popular things to do here is to go hiking and I want to start doing that, too! I know that Dobby will love it (since we have gone hiking before) but this is a good little walk for everyday use :)

Saying Goodbye

We had to say goodbye to a lot of people. On the Saturday before I moved, my neighbors had a cookout, so we got to spend some good time with them and all the dogs played on the patio.

We also had to say goodbye to my best friend L, who was always my sushi date and who doesn't like to have her picture taken...

Dobby Goes to a Baseball Game!

One of the great fun things we did just before moving away from Greensboro was a Grasshoppers game! Twice per season, they offer "Bark in the Park", a special game where you can sit on the hill with your dog. All the money from the dog tickets go to a local shelter, Red Dog Farm. The Hoppers have a special love for dogs. You might have heard of the owner's dogs, Miss Babe Ruth and Master Yogi, black labs that are trained to get bats and are allowed to run on the field after the games. They made the national news not too long ago. I love baseball, and I talked my friend L into coming to Greensboro from Raleigh with her new puppy. Not Grizzly (from the beach trip)--no, she got ANOTHER new puppy!! Here we all are at the game:

Dobby didn't win the Smallest Dog competition, though, this little girl did! (And although she wasn't very friendly, we did get to say hello to the big guy behind her!)

Updates Left and Right!

Hi all! Dobby and I have had a super busy two months since my last post. We moved 400 miles away from our home in North Carolina so that I can start my PhD program at WVU this fall. Since we moved about 3 weeks ago, I have been in intensive workshops preparing to teach English 101 to freshmen :) I'm excited and a little nervous.

Dobby has been having a great time! Although he did NOT like moving AT ALL he settled in quickly at our new house, which has a much larger, fenced in back yard. Yay! Our neighborhood is super dog friendly (almost every home has a pet!) and fairly walkable. Here are some of the fun things we've been doing.

I bought a new chair for our new house! I call it the "old man chair" because it looks like something a grandpa would love sitting in. It rocks and swivels. Here is Dob checking it out when I brought it home:

We went to a Chihuahua Rescue and Transport picnic and met a lot of chihuahua friends!
Sadly I don't remember anyone's name. There were a lot of cute new doggies to say hi to!

Some of them were even up for adoption. It was tempting, but with the move coming up I just couldn't take anyone new home.

We said goodbye to all our favorite people in Greensboro, like my boyfriend (we broke up since I was leaving :( )

And we had to say goodbye to Dobby's best friend Zinnie, too. It is sad to think I won't be doggy-sitting her regularly anymore. And I will miss having her mom to call when I need someone to watch Dobby. We will definitely be getting together whenever I visit Greensboro!

A lot more happened, too! I will try to update again in the next few days :)

Dobby's Teeth are Clean!

Well today finally was the day Dob went and had his dental work. His teeth are clean and three were pulled. I just brought him home. He is doing well, considering he is pretty drugged up :) We are just going to snuggle and have a quiet evening.

Dobby Gets his Teeth Cleaned

I am so nervous right now... Everyone please tell me this is a routine procedure and dogs much smaller than Dobby are just fine under anesthesia. (That's the part I'm worried about.) He needs at least one minor tooth extraction, too. :( He is so perfect just the way he is and I'm worried it will change his pretty smile and I hope it doesn't hurt too bad :(

I'm just being a worried, worried mom. I can't imagine what having human children is like! Everyone please keep Dobby in your thoughts tomorrow (Thursday) while he's at the vet. I will try not to call them every half hour to see how he's doing :) Updates to come.

UPDATE Fri. 6/3:
Well the vet had an emergency in the morning, so his day got re-arranged and it bumped Dobby off his list. So, no teeth work yet; I need to reschedule. Updates as necessary.

PSA, Product Plug, and a Visitor

We have lots to tell you about this week!

It all sort of weaves together, so I will just jump right in. Last weekend, I took in a stray dog, a minpin I called Max. I found him on Friday, so he had to spend the weekend with me since my vet was closed until Monday. He was covered in ticks and who knows what else, so he had to stay outside, but I gave him a bath, pulled off all the ticks I could find, and made him super comfy with my outdoor cushions and lots of towels. He was adorable and made himself a little nest.

Because he was roughed up a bit and my posters, craigslist ads, etc. hadn't gotten any responses from his owners, I sort of didn't want him to go back to them anyway. It didn't seem like they were taking good care of him, and didn't want to find him. So on Monday, I had mixed feelings about finding a microchip. He had a chip, but luckily the number on file was disconnected. So, I felt like I did the right thing trying to find his owner, but was also glad he didn't have to go back there! The vet called the person they know who does minpin rescue, and she came and picked him up right away. They all said how friendly he was and how easily he would be adopted. Happy ending!

So, TICKS! This is my Public Service Announcement: Finding so many ticks on little Max reminded me it is bug season. Everyone, please be careful about treating your pets for pests. Also, when I took Dobby to the park today, a tick got on my TOMS Shoes so remember to be careful even when you are in a well-kept area and stay on the paths. They can still get you!

And that is my product plug. Free advertising for TOMS! They are a fantastic business model and the shoes are beyond comfortable. Basically, for every pair you buy, they give a pair to a child in need. They're my go-to shoes. You can wear them straight out of the box (no break-in period at all), and I never get tired of wearing them.

Dobby's First Visit to the Beach

Dobby and I went on a grand adventure on Wednesday. My best friend from college moved to Raleigh last year, so we take turns visiting each other and for this trip, she had the great idea to go to the beach! So, I took Dobby with me and she brought Grizzly, her adopted mutt, and we made the journey to the coast. We went to a special beach that allows off-leash dogs on an island called Topsail Beach. Here's how far Dobby and I travelled on Wednesday:

We left Greensboro, drove east for almost 2 hours, then my friend L drove us all south east for another 2.5 hours. It was a long day! Breaking it up by stopping at L's house in Raleigh made all the difference, though, it would be hard to do the 4.5 hour drive alone as a one-day trip. But when we got there we had so much fun!!

It was high tide when we got there, so there was really just a narrow strip of sand between the water and the dunes. It was actually pretty great though, because it meant that the water was very shallow for quite a way out. We could walk out into the water 20 feet, and it would still only be up to our ankles! So that was great for shorty Dob. L had been to this beach with Grizz before, so she knew it was best for the dogs to stay on the sound side of the island, not the ocean side, because there were no scary waves. Once we walked a little past the few other people who were there (most of them just fishing), we let the dogs off leash.

Dobby really loves doing anything outside off leash :) So, although I was a little nervous about him being a baby about his paws in the sand or getting wet, he was a trooper. He was brave and trotted out in front of us along the sand and dunes, and then after I showed him how shallow the water was, he even went into the water by himself! I don't think he was really interesting in playing in it, but he definitely liked just exploring. And of course I took lots of pictures! (Click to make big!)

The Surprise and BIG NEWS!

Wellllll I got caught up in the end of semester insanity but now I'm ready to tell you about our surprise! Sort of! Basically, I got sod in my little back yard area and it's gorgeous and Dobby loves it. My back yard is about 35' by 20', about half concrete patio and half grass now.

I forgot to take a "before" picture, but this will give you a good idea of what my yard used to look like:
It was a weed patch with random bald spots sparsely covered by old mulch. When I moved in, there were even heaps of old chunks of concrete of some sort tossed back there. The patio slab is nice, but the yard was hideous. So, my landlady has been promising me sod basically since last summer, but the weather has been interfering. Now I have grass!!! It's so beautiful. I do have an "after" picture, but it's on my camera still and I don't have the cord.

I don't have my camera cord because I'm home in MD for Easter, and me and my mom are leaving tomorrow to meet my sister (who is studying abroad in Israel and is on spring break) in Athens, Greece!! Woohoo!

So, not a very exciting surprise unless you are me (and Dob) who enjoy the back yard SO much more now! Also not a very exciting post unless you are interested in what's going on in-the-life-of us instead of just pictures of Dob :)

Also, sorry I haven't been around much still! I finished my thesis and turned it in, then wrote another final term paper for a total of about 130 pages of writing this past two months. Plus working part time and social activities (which Dobby has been thoroughly enjoying, too!) Now I am all set to graduate with my MA on May 6, and BIG NEWS! I will be attending WVU in the fall to start a PhD. Anyone in that area, or anyone know anyone in that area, let me know. I need to find a spot for me and Dob to live :)

Spring Time Hooray!

Hi all! Last post I talked about taking Dob for a run in the baseball fields of a local park. We've gone several times since then. Usually we just walk, but sometimes, we do the baseball-run thing. He loves it!! Once, about three weeks ago, I remembered to take my camera:

That day we took squeeky, his favorite toy, to play fetch :)

Then we finished off the afternoon with a walk through the rest of the park. Dob LOVES peeing on ornamental grasses. He finds them really irresistible!

The weather has been super gorgeous here, and we are lovin' every minute! A lot of days, I'll get home from work and we sit outside for an hour or two just reading and hanging around. Plus, I have a surprise I'll be posting about soon... A surprise that just happened TODAY and made Dobby a very happy boy :):)

I can't believe I let so much time go by since my last post! The truth is, I don't have a lot of time these days. I am graduating in May so this semester is all about thesis writing. I'm also taking one class and working part time... so, you can imagine ChihuahuaPost has fallen down some on my list of priorities :( My little Dobby is just as important as ever, though! I make sure we go for walks all the time, and he is still a spoiled little brat.

Today was a really beautiful day here in NC--it was in the mid-sixties all day. We went to the park to go for a lovely walk, but as we were walking through a field, Dobby spontaneously burst into a run! He was on a leash so I ran alongside him to the end of the field. He hardly ever gets to run like that outside because I don't like to take his leash off him unless it's an enclosed area, and there aren't many public fenced-in fields around, especially ones that have cut grass (because uncut grass is too tall for him to run in!) I could tell he was so happy to be out in the sunshine he just wanted to run, run, run! Nearby there were some fenced-in baseball fields, so we went into one and ran, and ran, and ran for about half an hour. It was a blast. He was so happy! I will definitely be doing this again--the baseball fields are a great idea.

A Quick 'Hello' and- Christmas Card Exchange??

Hi everyone! We are still here, just having a busy fall. The weather has been uncommonly nice so we have been taking lots of trips to the park, which Dobby loves. I've been busy with school, but that just means Dob can enjoy quiet evenings snuggled next to me while I work :)

I just this week got out my Christmas things- I'm going home to Maryland for Thanksgiving, so I am decorating before I leave (so I will get to come home to Christmas cheer!) I found lots of great cards from four-legged friends from the past two years we have been a part of this great community but it made me think "HEY! What about this year?" RIP Much-Loved Doggies

My boyfriend's family has just had to help their 15 year old fox terrier across the Rainbow Bridge. Calvin was just very old and recently developed tumors throughout his body, including several that stopped his liver from working. I got to meet him a few times, and he was a quiet little old man with a funny little kinked tail and sweet gray eyebrows.

EDIT:
Shortly after Calvin passed over the bridge, my best friend's childhood dog, Belle, also had to be helped to the other side. She was a very big chow / german shepherd mix, about 14 years old, who was very loved. She was pretty sick and although everyone is sad, it was her time to go.

Also recently, some relatives of mine lost their old pup as well. My cousins, aunt, and uncle were very sad to see their 17 year old terrier pass. I have very good memories of Buster as a young dog, frolicking in the fields behind their house.

Please send happy thoughts their way.

A Trip to the Pumpkin Patch

Every year, Dobby and I go to pick out pumpkins together. Next year I will probably be moving to a new town during the summer, so we will have to find a new pumpkin patch. I was extra careful to take pictures this year so we could remember our first falls together! I got Dobby on October 13, so picking out pumpkins was one of the very first special things we ever did together. We go to a local church that fills their front lawn with pumpkins to raise money for their youth programs. (I like the idea that my pumpkin money is going to a good cause instead of a big grocery store!)

Milestones

Well, I still haven't gotten back into blogging as much as I'd like, but I hope that I can start posting more often soon :) For now, just a quick update! I forgot to blog about Dobby's two special days!

Dobby' birthday was September 1- he turned 4 years old! The evidence is in his increasingly gray beard :)

and!

Dobby's gotcha-day was October 13! I've had my little buddy for 3 years now. Time flies when you're having fun. This picture is from the first time I ever met him at his foster mom's house. It was about 2 weeks before I brought him home with me.

I don't think I took any special pictures of him on his special days, but he got extra love and treats. We need to go to the pet store some time this week anyway, so he will probably get some fancy cookies!

I also look forward to posting our annual Halloween photo shoot!!! This year I even remembered to take pictures when we went to pick out pumpkins, so I'll post about that soon, too.

A Hiking Trip

Last weekend, Dobby and I went with my boyfriend and my (new!) neighbors to Hanging Rock State Park, which isn't too far from where we live in NC.

It's a pretty good hike- about 2.5 miles total, and billed as "moderate difficulty." I've done it before, so I knew I could handle it. And Dobby is always so energetic and good on walks I figured he could do it, too! My neighbors also brought their dog.

It is so beautiful! Visibility is about 60 miles.

I picked Dobby up once we got to the top- for his own safety, mostly. He was very frustrated though, and kept whining to walk around and explore!

On the way down, I made sure to get a picture of some of the trail. I was totally impressed at how well Dobby did the whole time- some of these steps are twice as tall as he is!

What a great day it was :)

The New House

Well, it has been a busy week! Dobby and I are all moved in to the new house, and I dropped off my key at the old place earlier today. So it's official: we've moved! Here is Dobby checking out his new place before we got all the furniture and stuff in:

New News!

Alright, I'm still here! (Sort of!) Our most recent news is that my beautiful little bungalow just sold. So Dobby and I are moving this week! It will be a little crazy for a while, I admit, but I fully intend to post at least once in a while :)

I have been in this house for 4 years, and it is the only house Dobby has ever lived in with me (3 years). I hope he adjusts well to the move! Here are some pictures of Dobby enjoying our house... in memory of all the good years spent here.

Old News

Hi everyone! So I'd like to explain two factors that have kept me from Dobby's blog. My computer is broken again so I'm using my friend's computer again. It just limits my ability to save and access old pictures. I've also been back and forth between MD and NC all summer which makes organizing my thoughts a little more complicated. I'm still hoping to get back into blogging regularly, but wanted to start with some old news :)

In March, I made a trip up to MD to visit my parents and on the way back down I was asked to do a dog transport! Here is the little fuzzy girl I took from northern VA down to NC:

What do you think: is she a Pomeranian? She barked for about 2 hours in the car, but Dobby was a little angel as usual- I am continually impressed by how well he goes with the flow- he just completely ignored her.

Before it gets too warm, I just have to share this video with you... Dobby searching for heat! If I ever lose track of him in the house, he can usually be found hovering near a heater vent :)

This was taken in January... forgive the lingering Christmas tree you can see :) Lately, though, the weather has been warm and sunny! We have been hanging around outside and going for long walks. Hope you're all getting some Spring time, too!

Dobby got mail from his favorite little lady, Princess Coco. It was a huuuuge card in a pretty red envelope:

I helped Dob open it, and inside was a singing card! There was also a very long letter inside the card. Coco has beautiful, feminine hand writing and Dobby was excited to smell his sweetheart's perfume on the card.

It was a very important message, and Dobby immediately begged me to help him send a reply!

(Mom we have to write back to Coco right away!!)

Coco also included a little magnet for Dobby so that he can look at her beautiful picture whenever he wants. I put it nice and low on the fridge so he could see it :)

So now I have to help him send a reply! Stay tuned :)

Snow Day!!

Hi everyone! The great news is that a friend has loaned me her old laptop to use while mine is broken. So we're back! Now I will just have to spend all afternoon catching up on all your wonderful blogs :)

We are snowed in here in NC. Things are starting to melt today, but Friday night and yesterday morning, we got about 9 inches of snow! Dob has really hated it (as you could have guessed) because he hates going out to potty in the cold. Today, though, we were both getting a little stir-crazy to get out of the house, so I decided we should try to go for a walk. It was a huge success, and Dobby actually had a good time! I think he was just really glad to have some exercise.

First we had to get all bundled up! Dob was not thrilled.

Then we headed out into the snow. Thank goodness he is light enough he could just walk on top of it; it was deeper than he is tall!

More computer troubles!

The computer has gotten to the point of no return and will be wiped sometime in the next week or so... luckily I have everything backed up and won't lose much. Just a few more things I thought I'd share from Christmas :) I got a new camera but no memory card yet, so I didn't take many pictures at home in MD. Dobby enjoyed spending time with Gracie of course, and we had a great time relaxing with family.

Now we are back in NC! I was excited to come home to so many Christmas cards- thanks everyone :) Here is our card tree:

Snow Report

Last weekend (between Friday night and Saturday evening) we got 18 inches of snow! I am at home in Maryland with the family- this certainly wouldn't happen where Dobby and I live in North Carolina :) It has been a lot of fun though, being snowed in with my parents and sisters. Dobby always loves spending time with his friend Gracie, too!

He doesn't much like the snow though :) As you can see, it's taller than he is!!

Here is mom's snow stick! The front looks like a snowman and she marked the back with inch lines. This was after 3 days of melting!

Here is dad's pond, all snowed in. Most of it was ice, but he has a small fountain to keep water moving so that the fish can breathe :)

This is the path that my sisters created for Grace! She likes to run and play in the snow, but it was way too deep for her to play in without a little help.

She especially likes to stick her head in the snow and eat big mouthfulls of it. She has been so cute playing in the snow!

I have always been a huge fan of fall- and Dobby is, too! We love the cool mornings, perfect for snuggling. We love the warm- but not hot!- afternoons, great for lounging out on the deck in the sunshine. And recently, we've discovered the joy of chilly evenings in front of a fire :)

Last year my fireplace was in questionable condition... but we had it serviced, and now can enjoy it all winter long. Dobby loves the fire- it's gas, so it doesn't put out too much heat, but it puts out enough that he notices. He is fairly uninterested most of the time when it's burning, but once in a while, he will walk up to the fireplace and just bask in the glow. I think the light from the flames makes him nervous, but after I turn the fire off- when the heat is lingering on the tiles- he likes to just go stand by it; warming his little butt.

We all know chihuahuas love warm stuff!! :)

Weekend activities and lots of updates!

Hi all! Dobby and I had a fantastic weekend. I have been bad lately about taking pictures of him, but hopefully I'll be getting a new camera for Christmas and will get better about that. (My current camera is about 8 years old; it still works fine but it is so big and heavy that I never take it anywhere with us!)

On Saturday, Dobby and I went to All Pets Considered (I think of the Munchkins going to Harry Winston every time I go there now!) APC is a privately owned pet shop that has high quality kibbles, exciting chewies like moo tubes (trachea), bully sticks (...you know), and Dobby's new favorite: Texas toothpicks! Texas toothpicks are sheep tails, I think. They look really kind of gross when he's chewing them, like he has bitten off someone's finger! Since I don't have any pictures of our trip to APC, here are some pictures of Dob with a Texas toothpick.

Anyway, we went to the store to get him some new kibble and, after much deliberation, came home with Wellness Core original. I also looked at car seats and will maybe buy one soon. Dobby had a good time smelling all the smells and looking at some of the new outfits they had, but all we took home was the food.

After the pet store, we went to pick out pumpkins!! Dobby has gone with me to pick out pumpkins at a local church every year he has been with me (this was his third time). He always gets lots of attention, and loves being somewhere completely out of his ordinary routine. We picked out 3 great pumpkins and 2 adorable gourds to put around the house as decorations. Pictures to come soon!

Sunday, Dobby and I went to a little dog get-together at a park north of town (the same park where we got lost in the woods). There weren't as many people or dogs there as I had hoped, but there were tables set up for local vets, pet-sitters, and other dog related goodies. There was even an agility course set up! Dobby has never done agility before, but I've always thought he would be good at it. He was too distracted to try much, but I got him to jump over a little pole several times. One of the people running the thing took video of it, and as soon as I know if it's posted online somewhere, I'll put up a link! It was adorable! After meeting lots of new dogs and sniffing around for a while, we went home happy and tired.

It was a great weekend. Today is also a special day- Today is Dobby's gotcha day! I've had Dobby for 2 whole years now. Here is his adoption story. He also just turned 3 years old last month- I was so busy I forgot to post it that day, so I figured I would wait and post it today with his gotcha day post. Happy gotcha day, Dobby! I love you!

This fun award is from the Munchkins, Lexus and Bentley. Thanks guys! I'm supposed to tell you all about Dobby stealing food :) Dob is actually a really good boy and doesn't steal food! He begs and begs, but is usually very good about waiting until I give him permission to eat something.

An Award and a Tag

We were tagged a little while ago by our friend Dozer with this award that says "Your Blog is a Beautiful Dream"! Along with the award, I'm supposed to tell you some of Dobby's beauty secrets...

1) Always get petted a lot. It smoothes the fur.

2) Eat plenty of good fats and oils, since they make your coat shiney. And:

3) Have regular baths. (Dobby doesn't really like baths, but he's really well behaved when we have to have one!)

Dozer's beauty secrets are really great, you should all go read them :)

I also want to take a tag from Lexus and Bentley to tell you about Dobby's name. As you might know from our older posts, Dobby really is named after the Harry Potter character!

When I was first "shopping" for a dog on Petfinder and Adopt-A-Pet, I wanted to name my new friend something really human-sounding that had a cutsey nickname that was more dog-appropriate. When I found my little guy online, I narrowed it down to a list of boy names: Edgar, Frederick, Bert, Etc. I still think he would have made a good "Ernie", and he was very nearly "Toby". Then one night, after having him for just a few days, we were relaxing in my room and he was sitting on my chest. From that angle, suddenly his ears looked just like Dobby the house-elf's ears! I knew then that his name was Dobby.

Dobby had a few names before he became Dobby: at his first home, he was called "Baby" and at his foster home he was called "Squirt". Dobby suits him much better! Now he has a lot of nick-names though:

Where Dobby Sleeps

A long, long time ago Dozer tagged Dobby to show the places where he sleeps. Dob has a couple of beds, but doesn't really use them....

Zinnie uses this green bed when she is visiting more than Dobby ever does.

You might recognize this bed as the one Dobby fights with- he never lays in it.

Dobby has the cutest, tiniest little crate I've ever seen! It's adorable. He does sleep in it once in a while, especially in the evenings if he wants quiet time. He also knows the command "Go in your house" and will stay there without the door closed if I ask him to.

This, as you know, is "The Nest" and Dobby sleeps here almost all day every day. He loves his nest so much that if the blanket is folded up he will make sad eyes at you until you make him a nest. He also knows that his blanket = safety. He is much calmer on car trips if he's wrapped up in his blankey.

The best place to sleep, though, is obviously the big bed with mommy. <3

Dobby goes Swimming!

Usually, I'm at work so much during the week that the weekends are very Dobby-centric. I feel like while I'm home, we should do special things together. Well! This weekend, Dobby, J, and I went to meet Connie and Zinnie at a lake! Connie's grown daughter has a house on the lake, and Connie takes Zinnie there to swim. I've never seen Dobby swim- he probably never had before- so I was really excited to go.

When we got there, Dob was just happy to be somewhere new. He's always very curious and likes to explore and sniff everything in sight. We heard Zinnie give a little bark, and Dobby recognized her voice and took off in her direction. It's always cute to see them greet each other! They're such good friends :) Dobby really likes Connie, too. At this point, though, he had no idea that he was going to go IN the water!

Connie took Zinnie down the ramp entry area to a spot about 2 or 3 feet deep and lowered her into the water- her little legs kicking before she even got wet! Zinnie took off! She is a fast little swimmer. Dobby was slower when it was his turn- like I said I doubt if he has ever been swimming before. Connie lowered him in and made sure his legs were kicking, then let go. My little guy swam his heart out and came right to me in the shallows! It was the cutest thing :)

They took turns again a few times, swimming to me and walking up the ramp to dry ground. They were both really cute. We will definitely be doing this again sometime soon, and I promise to bring a camera! It's a great way to cool down in the heat of summer.

Hi everyone! From the comments on yesterday's post, I realized there are some newcomers who don't know who Zinnie is :)

Zinnia belongs to a friend of mine, and we dog-sit for each other. Zin and Dobby are best friends and like to play together sometimes, but Zinnie usually likes to sleep instead. She even steals Dobby's nest! Dobby is nice and accommodates her when she's over, and in return she tries not to boss him around too much.

I am a major dog person, and I really enjoy meeting so many people who are so enthusiastic about their dogs (and cats), too!! It is a lot of fun following all your adventures and sharing some of my own. I love looking at all the cute and funny pictures of your dogs, hearing about the goofy things they do, and especially the occasional videos. I love having such a neat way to share Dobby with all of you, too, because he's so special to me. Although this blog started as a way for me to send pictures of Dobby to family and friends, I've come to love the whole community I discovered here.

Dobby loves to sit on top of our green couch. From one end, he can watch out the back doors, and from the other he can see the front door. Sometimes he sets up camp for a long shift of guard duty, complete with snuggle blanket.

Lost in the Woods!

I am extremely lucky in that, whenever needed, I am able to bring Dobby to work with me. It's a small office and everyone loves him (of course) so since the house is showing today, the little guy is here with me at the office.

I often drive past a little park on my way here, and today I decided to take Dobby there on my lunch hour for a walk. It was a little cloudy and calling for scattered thunder storms, so I took my umbrella and figured we wouldn't be out long, so it would all be alright.

I had been there once before with Dobby, sticking to the main roadway through the park. It looked like it was about 2 miles long, and I figured the park couldn't be much wider than just the area I could see. The trail there is called "The Big Loop", but I had no idea how 'big' the loop was. It seemed like just a small community park. Boy, was I wrong!

As it turns out (I've just looked it up) the park is 250 acres, and the Big Loop is over 4 miles long! Dobby and I started through the woods from a parking lot entry point, and quickly got "lost" (can you really get lost on a trail called a "Loop"?). After about 45 minutes of walking, we ran into another hiker and he let us know we were almost smack-dab in the middle of the loop- darn! We couldn't even get back faster by re-tracing our steps back the way we had come, so we kept moving forward. It was raining, but the trees kept us from getting wet. It wasn't too hot, but it was extremely humid! We were both damp and tired by the time I recognized the golf practice area of the park and cut through the woods to get back to the main roadway. It was another 500 yards or so to where we were parked.

Once we got out of the woods, I could see the dark clouds all around us- it was still only sprinkling rain, but the thunder was happening more and more often! We were both very happy to get to the car to cool off in the AC. I was happier than ever about my habit of carrying a water bottle in the car, too.

Now we're safe and sound, back at the office, Dobby asleep in my lap. What an adventure!!

Heat!

It's nice and warm out now, but this was back in February- chilly! Dobby liked to lay by the heat vent and get toasty warm :)

PS- I think my posts have been pretty boring lately! Soon I hope to do a thing Dozer tagged me for a while ago, and hopefully update more often.

The house that I rent is for sale, so we have to keep it looking tidy and neat for showings. On this day, I had just folded up Dobby's blanket, taking away his nest. He was determined to get comfortable anyway :)

This picture was taken in January, but now Spring IS here! It has been beautiful lately, and Dobby has loved being outside so much. He loves laying in the sunshine, soaking in the warmth.
